About the Department

  • Preface

      Sociology is the science that deals with the study of the manifestations,systems and social relations,a careful analytical and descriptive study through the pursuit of different research methods,in order to reach the rules the rules and laws governing the conduct of these phenomena and social elations. This science also means understanding the nature of various social realities so that this society can draw up strategic plans, set goals and programs that will work to increase progress and raise society. Sociology seeks to understand all aspects of human social behavior, including the behavior of individuals as well as the social dynamics of small groups, larg organization, communities, institutions, and entire societies Sociologists are typically motivated both by the desire to better understand the principles of social life and y the convition that understanding these principles may aid in the formulation of enlightened and effective social policy. Sociology provides anintellectual background for students considering careers in the professions or business.

The department of sociology introduce the students to a sociological way of thinking. It provides an understanding of the discipline of Sociology and sociological perspective. It also provides foundation for other more detailed and specialized courses in sociology.

History of Dept.

The Establishment of Jawahar Arts, Science and Commerce College, Anadur took place on June 1997. This moment itself marked the starting point of the Department of Sociology. Started with the student strength of 12 by Shri Ukrande , the then lecturer of Sociology this Department has produced notable Sociologist and made significant contributions to the development of the subject.

              Prof. Dr.V.S.Swami was appointed as a C.H.B faculty and since then he is working as the Head of Department till date.. two assistant professors Mr. M.M. Kamble & Mrs. R.B.Kamble were appointed on clock hourly basis. The present strength of students at the department is 27 and three teaching staff are on a C.H.B. appointment. All the presently working faculty members and supporting staff of the department are working satisfactorily with efficiency.
